Ancient Greece posing

LI: To use our smart searching skills to expand our knowledge of Ancient Greek Mythology.

Today David shared the next reading challenge with us. It is all about the Greek gods and helps us to practise the skills we have been learning in our reading lessons with our teachers.

David created this task as part of his CARE award challenges. In this posting activity, we first pick five Gods or Goddesses and pick an image from around the world or the God or Goddess and write a caption for the post.

I found this activity interesting because it tells me who is the more strongest army.

The post that I found most interesting was the Ancient Greece Word Sort because it has Alexander the great in it.

Bravery

LI: To edit our writing using DRAFT

DRAFT stands for:

D - Delete
R- Rearrange
A - Add
F - Fix
T - Talk

We used DRAFT to edit our poems. Me and my partner (Leon) created a poem about bravery. What we did was look for an abstract noun. A abstract noun is something that exist but you cannot touch it. In our poem we used the 5 senses which are see, touch, smell, hear and taste. We also created complex sentences. We added our puncuation includidng a comma and fullstop. We also used metaphors and similies.

After creating our poem we proof read it and edited the poem. We rearranged words, added words and deleted words. I found this activity fun because I got to hear everyones powerful poems. I also liked my one because I think me and Leon did a good job writing our poem.

Friendship

LI:To write an abstract noun senses poem.

For Writing we were learning about abstract nouns, metaphors, and about the 5 senses. Learning about these things helped us create our poem and be able to make it creatively as well as have a good structure. Each sentence of our poem was for each sense, so it smells and much more. Also our topic for our poem was any abstract noun.

An abstract noun is a noun that is intangible, like a feeling such as love & hatred.

Our 5 senses are Sight, Smell, Feel, Taste, and our Hearing. These are what we use in our everyday lives, and are senses we use to elevate our writing.

A Metaphor is a speech term, part of figurative language. Metaphors are used to compare two things without using the words ‘like’ or ‘as’.

Real or Fake

 LI: To consider both perspectives

We are learning about the Taonga of Storytelling, the story that we learnt about was about Maori legend about the mountains. For this task we worked together to decide/negotiate whether or not we think that it had happened using evidence to help support our opinion. We used our smart searching skills to help us find evidence that it happened or didn't happen. We then negotiated whether or not we though if this actually happened and then said why we thought what we thought.

I really enjoyed looking at how the other perspectives have different ways of thinking.

Main Ideas

LI: To identify main ideas in the text.

Our group watched the video about the story of Rona and the moon and how the moon took rona away. Today we wrote about Rona and the moon it told us about how Rona was lazy and bossy and made her husband do everything for her. For this activity we wrote down the main ideas starting off with the important ideas than after that we then used our negotiation skills to pick out four very important ideas making sure that we all agree that they are very important ideas then after that we then pick out three vital ideas again making sure that we all agree that they are vital ideas.

I really enjoyed this activity because it strengthened our ability to negotiate with others.

Care awards

Today I reseached someone that has a positive attitude despite difficulties. And that person is me, most of the time I'm really positive because I find it better to be positive than depressed and sad. It effects other people alot then people think, I try really hard to be positive to other people because I don't want to bring them down. If you see someone that is sad, try and cheer them up don't just leave them there to be sad go to them and talk to them about the problem they had it might be about a family member or someone has hurt them or mad them sad.

Culture stories

LI: To summarise the maori story of creation

For inquiry we are learning about Taonga of storytelling or the treasure of storytelling cultural stories that have been passed down through our ancestors.  We learnt about the maori creation story and we also  summarised the story. We used this summarizing template to summarize the video that we watched of the maori creation story. The video told us about the story of papatuanuku and ranginui in the darkness and how they separated and how their son Tawhirimatea sent mighty storms and rain to show his rage.

I really enjoyed this activity because I found it fun to learn about other cultures stories.

Dialogue

LI: To understand how to use and correctly punctuate dialogue when writing

This week for our writing class we have we recapped what a dialogue text is about, and how to use it.

This is our DLO we have worked on to reflect our understanding of the purpose of dialogue in writing.

An example of how to use dialogue is:

“Are you new here?” questioned Mahdi.

“Yes, I am new here, can you please take me to room 7?”  replied James

“Sorry I’m actually new here. I was about to ask you if you wanted to be my friend,” awkwardly said Mahdi.

Something I found interesting about dialogue is that theres more different ways to write instead of saying said.

Cinquain Poem

LI: To write a cinquain poem to describe a sports star

We have been learning to write cinquain poems to help us strengthen our connections to description. A cinquain poem has 5 lines. Each line has a different purpose. Line 1 is a noun which is a name. Line 2 has 2 adjectives taht describe the noun. Line 3 has 3 verbs that end in ‘ing’ and describe the actions. Line 4 is a noun phrase which is a group of words (not a sentence) that go together to describe the noun. Line 5 is a synonym which is a word with a similar meaning to the noun.

I enjoyed this activity because I got to create a DLO about my favorite basketball player
